Summer DC Update

As we quickly approach the summer of 2008, our club has been very busy already this year.  We held a successful and fun car wash on May 3rd generating funds for our members to participate in pony club events.  We started a Eco-bag fundraiser as well.  The Eco-bags are wonderful reusable bags for groceries, horse tack, swim gear, you name it.  The club will net a fantastic profit from the sales of the bags and will help cover the cost of our pony club camp.

Last, but not least, the club hosted a A Day of Fun with Horses at The Hay Barn.  This exciting event was attended by 33 community children staring at age 3.  The children were taught various aspects of horse care by our members at different stations.  They also had the opportunity to build stick ponies and have lead line pony rides.  The event was successful in so many ways - we taught other children the joys of horse ownership, our members were able to share the knowledge they learn in pony club, our parents were reminded of what a great organization this is and we have several new potential members who want to be a part of pony club.  Oh yeah, and we made some much needed funds for our members to use towards other pony club activities!

We have some more great events still coming this summer  In June, our region is hosting a combination Show Jumping/Dressage Rally.  The members will compete on teams against other clubs in our region.  Also included will be clinics, swimming, bar-b-ques and tons of fun.  We can't wait.  In July, the highlight of the year is our pony club camp.  This year we are returning to Eventful Acres for four days with Shirley Antrobus and Lauren Baumgardner as our instructors.  Due to the hot July weather, we also plan to spend lots of time at Lake Collins eating ice cream and enjoying the water.

Before we know it, the fall months will be upon us.  We have several members who will be heading off to college and hopefully many new ones will join to take their place.   Our members will grow in their horse knowledge and riding abilities and continue to become special horsewomen and men.

As always, it is a pleasure to be your DC!
